SAIT Trojans Weekend Recap Sep. 26-28, 2025
Women’s soccer remain perfect, men drop points to Rattlers
WOMEN
After a tight 1-0 win in their previous match against the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks, the SAIT Trojans women’s soccer team aimed for more success this weekend.
The Trojans took on the Medicine Hat Rattlers on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Cohos Commons Field in Calgary.
Just four minutes in, second-year striker Tiona Patton gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
In the 25th minute, Amy Fallows found Rachelle O’Leary to make it 2-0.
Early in the second half, veteran Isabel Vega scored twice in six minutes to extend the lead to 4-0.
Sofia Sproule added two goals of her own in the 63rd and 72nd minutes to seal a 6-0 win.
The next day, the Trojans travelled to Olds to face the Olds College Broncos.
The Broncos struck first in the 33rd minute, with Chloe Olivia Skoreyk opening the scoring.
Fallows equalized seven minutes later.
In the second half, Fallows assisted veteran Saige Joseph, who put the Trojans ahead 2-1.
Gabby Cavezza scored in the final five minutes to secure a 3-1 victory.
With back-to-back wins, the Trojans remain undefeated at 7-0 and sit first in the ACAC women’s soccer standings with 37 goals for and three against.
Next up is an away match against the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings on Friday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m., followed by a home game against the Ambrose Lions the next day at noon.
MEN
After a 3-1 win over the Kodiaks last weekend, the Trojans faced a top-of-the-table clash at home against the Rattlers on Saturday, Sept. 27.
League-leading scorer Rovers Woodroffe-Brown gave SAIT the advantage just before halftime.
The Rattlers responded with two goals in three minutes early in the second half.
Rookie Aleksa Bijelic scored his seventh of the season in the 71st minute to equalize, but Joao Cintra replied in the 74th to give the Rattlers the win.
The following day, the Trojans rebounded with a 3-0 victory over the Broncos, with goals from Amadeo Chamoun, Woodroffe-Brown and Esrom Yohannes.
With the loss to the Rattlers and the win against the Broncos, SAIT remain top of the ACAC men’s soccer standings with 27 goals for and four against.
Next up is a home match against the Ambrose Lions on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m.
Trojans continue strong cross-country dominance
The third Running Room Grand Prix Series Race took place this past weekend in Grand Prairie.
Willem Grant was the lone runner for the Trojans in the event, finishing in 11th place with a time of 28:29.
The next Running Room Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Camrose, A.B. and is hosted bby the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.
Women’s fastball struggle in Kelowna
After a disappointing weekend in Lethbridge, the SAIT Trojans looked to bring home positives from Kelowna.
The Trojans opened the weekend Saturday morning against the University of Victoria Vikes.
Shortstop Christina Van De Velde gave SAIT an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.
The Vikes responded with five runs in the bottom half to go up 5-1.
Victoria controlled the rest of the game, winning the opener 9-3.
The teams met again later in the afternoon, with the Vikes also winning 9-2.
Saturday’s final game was against hometown powerhouse Mount Royal Cougars.
Pitcher Samara Sawyer went the distance for SAIT, while Brinley Williamson drove in all five of the team’s runs.
The effort wasn’t enough, as the Cougars came away with a 10-5 victory.
On Sunday, the Trojans faced the league-leading UBC Okanagan Heat in back-to-back games.
In the morning, the Heat tossed a shutout to beat SAIT 7-0.
Later in the day, they dominated again in a 15-0 win.
Next up are the ACAC women’s fastball playoffs, hosted this weekend at Shouldice Athletic Park in Calgary.
The Trojans await their schedule and look to make a playoff run.
Women’s rugby smack Cougars, earn playoff birth
The Trojans women’s rugby team took on the University of Regina Cougars on Friday, Sept. 26 in Regina.
A commanding 114-0 win earned the Trojans a birth in the ACAC women’s rugby playoffs.
The playoffs take place from Oct. 24-26 in Brandon, Man.
