Women’s soccer end season undefeated, men clinch first place
Women
The SAIT Trojans women’s soccer team ended their season with a perfect 12-0 record.
The undefeated Trojans took on the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Cohos Commons Field at SAIT.
Nicole Noble gave the Trojans an early lead off a Meaghan Wiebe assist just 13 minutes into the first half.
Khloe Jankowiak equalized for the Kodiaks in the 31st minute.
Less than a minute later, Trojans striker Rachelle O’Leary made it 2-1.
Kodiaks rookie Sophie DeMarsh equalized again in the 90th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Fourth-year forward Nikki Charlton scored the winner for the Trojans in the 93rd minute to preserve their undefeated season.
The Trojans travelled to Medicine Hat on Sunday to take on the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
The lone goal of the match came from Charlton, who scored in the 21st minute to give the Trojans a 1-0 win.
With wins over the Kodiaks and Rattlers, the Trojans finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0, sitting first in the ACAC women’s soccer standings with 57 goals for and six against.
Next for the Trojans is the ACAC women’s soccer championship in Lethbridge.
Finishing first in the standings, the Trojans earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the quarter-final on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. at Raymond Comet Stadium.
Men
The Trojans men’s soccer team faced a crucial weekend, with two wins needed to clinch first place in the ACAC standings.
First up was a home match against the Kodiaks on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Cohos Commons Field.
The Trojans went up 4-0 by halftime with goals from striker Grant Johnson, winger Shadrach Boakye, midfielder Fabian Guzman and captain Hafiz Major.
Ty Ritche and Meron Tecle added goals in the 62nd and 65th minutes to make it 6-0.
Johnson scored his second of the match in the 90th minute to seal a 7-0 win.
Johnson was named Trojans player of the game after his two-goal performance.
The following day, the Trojans travelled to Medicine Hat for a top-of-the-table clash against the Rattlers.
Major and Robert Woodroffe-Brown gave the Trojans an early lead with goals in the fourth and 15th minutes.
After 45 minutes, the Trojans led 2-0.
First-year fullback Annel Correa scored his second goal of the season in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0.
Woodroffe-Brown netted his second of the game in the 76th minute to secure a 4-0 victory.
Midfielder Ty Ritche was named player of the match after a dominant midfield performance.
With wins over the Kodiaks and Rattlers, the Trojans clinched first place in the ACAC men’s soccer standings with a 9-1 record, scoring 45 goals and conceding only five.
Next for the Trojans is the ACAC men’s soccer championship in Lethbridge.
Finishing first, the Trojans earned a first-round bye and will play the quarter-final winner on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. at Raymond Comet Stadium.
Women’s basketball drop season opener, men dominate Thunder
Women
Last season, the Trojans women’s basketball team won the ACAC division and earned a trip to the CCAA national championship in Fredericton, N.B.
The Trojans opened their 2025-26 season on Friday, Oct. 17, away to the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder.
At halftime, the Trojans led 32-30.
The Thunder pulled ahead in the third quarter, scoring 22 points and securing a 67-58 win.
Tana Iwanusiw led the Trojans offence with 21 points and two assists.
Next for the Trojans is a trip north to Grande Prairie to face the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on Friday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with The King’s University in Edmonton on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Men
After a disappointing exit in last season’s ACAC playoffs, the Trojans men’s basketball team looked to start strong.
The Trojans faced the Thunder on Friday, Oct. 17, in Edmonton.
By halftime, the Trojans led 49-38.
The Trojans defence shut down the Thunder offence in the third quarter, allowing only six points.
The final score was 85-64 for the Trojans, with Marc Gabriel putting up 23 points and nine rebounds.
Next for the Trojans is a trip north to Grande Prairie to face the Wolves on Friday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m., followed by The King’s University on Saturday in Edmonton at 8 p.m.
Women’s hockey split weekend series with Queens
The Trojans women’s hockey team looked to rebound against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens after two straight losses to start the season.
On Friday, Oct. 17, the Trojans hosted the Queens at Winsport Arena in Calgary.
Captain Esther Boelema opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first period to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Queens forward Arilyn Toews scored in the second and third periods to give the visitors a 2-1 win.
Both teams met again the next day in Red Deer.
After a scoreless first period, Boelema scored her second goal in as many games on the power play.
In the third period, the Queens equalized through Victoria Longley, but less than 30 seconds later, Alia Drummond restored the Trojans’ lead.
Anna Kapocsi added an empty-net goal to secure a 3-1 victory.
With the weekend split, the Trojans sit tied for last in the ACAC women’s hockey standings with a 1-3 record.
Next for the Trojans are two games against the Olds College Broncos — Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in Olds, and Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7:15 p.m. at Winsport Arena in Calgary.
Women’s and men’s volleyball open season with wins
Women
The Trojans women’s volleyball team opened their 2025-26 season with a straight-sets win over the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at Rally Pointe.
Mia Delaquis led the Trojans with 11 kills.
Next for the Trojans is a home matchup against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at Rally Pointe on Friday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m.
Men
The Trojans men’s volleyball team also won in straight sets against the Thunder on Friday night.
Veteran Jonah Deranger recorded seven kills, while Alex Liao tallied 30 assists.
Next for the Trojans is a home matchup against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at Rally Pointe on Friday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m.
Women’s rugby win over city rivals, men win against Golden Bears
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Trojans women’s rugby team earned an impressive 43-31 away victory over city rivals, the Mount Royal Cougars.
The Trojans remain third in the PRWRC standings with 11 points, three behind the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with 14.
On the men’s side, the Trojans took on the University of Alberta Golden Bears in Calgary on Sunday, Oct. 19.
In a close match, the Trojans came out on top 24-21 to move up to second place in the PUMRG standings.
Trojans impress in opening ACAC badminton tournament
The first ACAC badminton tournament of the season took place on Sunday, Oct. 19, at NAIT.
The Trojans had representatives in every event.
Women’s singles
Sienna Pricca, Emma Grabowski and Nana Amunutkkittikul all reached the quarter-finals.
Pricca was defeated by No. 1-ranked Melissa Roque of The King’s University Eagles 21-11, 21-9.
Grabowski beat No. 4-ranked Emma Tran of Concordia University Thunder in three games (21-14, 17-21, 21-15) to advance to the semi-finals.
Amunutkkittikul defeated Abigael Wegner of the Eagles 21-14, 21-11.
Grabowski lost to Roque in the semi-finals 21-6, 21-6, while Amunutkkittikul beat Khushi Vaniya 21-18, 21-12 to reach the final.
Roque defeated Amunutkkittikul 21-17, 21-9 to win the women’s singles title.
Men’s singles
In the quarter-finals, George Cho faced No. 1-ranked Mahdi Ahmadi of The King’s University and lost 21-9, 21-17.
Ice Aishte-Pitpit was defeated by Vivek Kodi 21-12, 21-6.
Second-ranked Mono Suttinon beat Om Patel 21-17, 21-17 to reach the semi-finals, where he defeated Vincent Nguyen of the Eagles 21-18, 21-14.
In a three-game final, Suttinon won the first game 21-17 before Ahmadi came back 9-21, 21-18 to capture gold.
Women’s doubles
Top-ranked Trojans duo Archelle Ouanao and Amunutkkittikul defeated Sasha Iastreb and Rachel Chan 21-7, 21-7 in the semi-finals.
They then beat NAIT Ooks pair Khushi Vaniya and Mataia Wong 21-11, 21-8 to win the title.
Men’s doubles
Trojans pair Harshit Saini and John Schumacher beat Jordan Bergeron-Meza and Nakhon Lee of Burman University 21-18, 21-3 in the quarter-finals before falling to Mattias Andersson and Jonathan Su of the Thunder 21-16, 21-16 in the semis.
Mixed doubles
Aishte-Pitpit and Kristianna Ladine Navarro lost to Ooks pair Ethan Lee and Samantha Tran 21-14, 21-3 in the opening round.
Cho and Grabowski were defeated by No. 2-ranked Matthew and Mataia Wong.
Third-ranked Suttinon and Ouanao beat Andersson and Prabhleen Kaur to reach the semi-finals, then upset the Wong duo to advance to the final.
In the championship match, Suttinon and Ouanao beat top-ranked Ahmadi and Roque 12-21, 21-14, 25-23 to claim gold.
