SAIT Trojans Weekend Recap Sep. 5-7, 2025
Women’s soccer starts season with six points; men dominate Lions
The Trojans women’s soccer team made a statement in the ACAC with two straight wins to open the regular season.
After a strong pre-season, which included a 2-1 win over The King’s University Eagles and a 3-0 win against the Keyano College Huskies, the Trojans opened at home Friday, Sept. 5, against the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.
Three minutes in, the Trojans took the lead when fifth-year Nikki Charlton fired from outside the box into the top left corner.
The second goal came in the 13th minute from reigning ACAC player of the year and Trojans captain Meagan Wiebe. Her long-range strike from the right side of the box sailed over the Vikings’ keeper into the top corner for a 2-0 lead.
In the 17th minute, rookie Megan Hockley chipped the keeper from the edge of the box to make it 3-0.
Sage Joseph netted her first of the season — another long-range strike — in the 25th minute. Two minutes later, Joseph struck again, finishing across the keeper with her left foot into the bottom corner for 5-0.
Wiebe added her second in the 32nd minute off a cutback from winger Amy Fallows.
Rachelle O’Leary then slipped a through ball from Wiebe past the Vikings’ back line and tucked it into the bottom corner for 7-0 in the 37th minute.
The Trojans added four more in the second half, including two from Wiebe, plus goals from Fallows and Gabby Cavezze, to finish at 11-0.
Wiebe, with four goals and an assist, was named player of the match.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, the Trojans took on the Ambrose Lions at Rundle College.
Nicole Noble opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Centre back Ashlyn Grant doubled the lead in the 13th with a free kick from 50 yards out that sailed over the keeper.
In the 21st minute, the Trojans were awarded a penalty after a Lions handball. O’Leary converted into the bottom corner for 3-0.
Despite the Trojans’ dominance, Lions striker Lindsay Hesjedal pulled one back before halftime, breaking past Grant and finishing into the bottom corner.
The Trojans added two more before the break through Sofia Sproule and Wiebe, sealing a 6-1 win.
Next up for the Trojans are home matchups against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Saturday, Sept. 13, at noon, and the Olds College Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 14, at noon.

The Trojans doubled the lead just before halftime when Woodroffe headed in a corner for his second.
